چکیده

The simple view of reading (SVR) framework has been used for decades to explain two general component skills considered contribute comprehension: decoding and linguistic comprehension. In the past, researchers have assessed comprehension using a wide range language and/or listening measures that differed from each other. Many those tasks did not align with concept originally proposed. Regardless, studies’ outcomes were similar: SVR model adequately represents process this article, I propose common thread links diverse measurement tasks: all measured students’ metalinguistic skills. fact, findings these studies mirror found investigations directly measuring influence awareness abilities on conclude article theoretical educational implications taking different second model.

Vocabulary does not complicate the simple view of reading

Gough and Tunmer's (1986) simple view of reading (SVR) proposed that reading comprehension (RC) is a function of language comprehension (LC) and word recognition/decoding. Braze et al. (2007) presented data suggesting an extension of the SVR in which knowledge of vocabulary (V) affected RC over and above the effects of LC. Tunmer and Chapman (2012) found a similar independent contribution of V ...

The Component Model of Reading: Simple View of Reading Made a Little More Complex

The “Simple View of Reading” proposes that reading comprehension could be predicted by the product of decoding and linguistic comprehension. A somewhat modified version of this model suggests that the relationship between decoding and linguistic comprehension should be additive rather than multiplicative. This research is comprised of two studies. The first study compared the efficacy of the tw...
